Welcome to

Oakmist Grove

Oakmist has its roots in both NECTW and Georgian traditions.

NECTW’s founder was Lady Gwen Thompson whose family tradition originated in Somerset England and was brought to the United States by way of Nova Scotia. This material was handed down through many generations and blended with popular occultism to become the present form she named NECTW/ Not all who are born into a family tradition are destined to follow this path, and Lady Gwen feared her tradition would die out and fade into obscurity. For this reason, she began fostering students outside the family.

Pat Patterson was a correspondent of Lady Gwen and some traditions say she helped him start his Georgian Tradition and even helped him name it, suggesting he use his first name, George.

Lady Rowan of Oakmist studied with Pat Patterson for several years and in 1983 she hived and began her own coven. Using the Georgian training materials as a base, she and her acting HP revamped the lessons, adding new material, including much from their own Scot and Portuguese families. Oakmist Tradition is the result.

Over the years Lady Rowan has trained only two Priests to accompany her. The first was MacTire, who now resides and works as a professional actor in Los Angeles, California. The second is Lord Aldebaran, who is currently High Priest of Oakmist Grove and has worked with Lady Rowan since 1997. He has been a major force in the training and Initiation of Oakmist’s hives.

In 1996 the Circle was complete when the tradition was taken back across the ocean to Wales by Lady Byd of Dragonoak. The Oakmist Tradition currently has active covens and hives in Portland, Oregon, Oklahoma, Wales, and London.

ABOUT OAKMIST GROVE

Oakmist Grove is one of many traditions of Witchcraft.  We have covens and individual students internationally.

The primary focus of Oakmist Grove is training for the Priesthood. We accomplish this via rigorous and committed study and Initiation into the Mysteries.

Oakmist Grove stresses polarity and fertility.  The God and the Goddess are equally important to us.  The HPS and HP take turns leading ritual, according to the season.

Oakmist Initiates believe in Reincarnation of some form.

Oakmist Initiates celebrate the 13 Esbats or Full Moons.  We sometimes Circle on the New Moon.  On these nights, we honor the Goddess and often do magical work.

Oakmist works primarily with a Celtic pantheon, the Faery, and the Underworld.  However, Oakmist material can be formatted to use with any pantheon.

Oakmist Initiates follow Oakmist Grove’s version of the Wheel of the Year, a myth which attempts to explain seasonal solar changes.

Oakmist Initiates receive training in Hermetics and in the esoteric Tarot. This is not training in divination, but rather a tool for spiritual living. Other studies shall include the Tree of Life, the Hebrew letters, the Cube of Space, Gematria, and Alchemy.

Oakmist Initiates work robed. Robe colors are chosen by the HPS of each coven. Cingulum colors are standardized for the Tradition.

Oakmist is an offshoot of NECTW  (New England Covens of Traditionalist Witches).

As a rule, Oakmist limits personal training to people who are over 18 years of age.

Oakmist Initiates agree to keep true to our Oath of Initiation.

Oakmist Initiates adhere to The Oakmist Guidelines.

Oakmist Initiates adhere to The Rede of the Wiccae as written by Lady Gwen Thompson, and as stated in the Book of Shadows.

Oakmist does not charge for its training.  However, we do require that members pay for their own materials, which are mandatory for the training.  If members cannot afford the very small materials cost, we may counsel them to return when their life is in better financial order.  We do not believe that it is to the benefit of the student to finance the cost of their materials for training. As of this date, students pay $20 per month for their lessons. This covers the time and materials it takes for the teacher to prepare the lessons. There may, on occasion, be additional charges, such as for fabric for robes or capes or entrance fees to festivals.

All students agree to keep material given to them absolutely confidential until they are allowed to HIVE.

Students are accepted on a 3-month trial basis.  During the first three months, either the student or the teacher may decline to continue the studies without giving any reason.  After three months, a Dedication Rite may be requested by the student.
